EOD Airmen reflect on sacrifices
ARGHANDAB RIVER VALLEY, AFGHANISTAN – Staff Sgt. Michael Burnett, 5th Civil Engineer Squadron noncommissioned officer in charge of EOD quality and assurance, uses a mini mine detector to search for metal signature traces. Detectors like these are used to scan ground terrain for possible pressure plates which trigger improvised explosive devices. EOD Airmen frequently deploy to areas like Afghanistan and Iraq because of their expertise in dealing with IED’s, weaponry continually used by insurgents in these areas. (Photo courtesy/Staff Sgt.
