MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- The 5th Security Forces Squadron K-9 section is comprised of nine handlers and nine Military Working Dogs, responsible for providing immediate explosive and drug detection in support of Minot Air Force Base’s resources and over 17,000 residents. Although most personnel see the dogs conducting vehicle searches at the main gate, their primary responsibility is to provide support to the Weapons Storage Area and associated nuclear security operations. The military working dog is a vital asset commonly called upon by Secret Service, Office of Special Investigations and state and federal organizations from Devil’s Lake to the Montana border. Over the last couple of years the 5th SFS K-9 section has been called upon to avert 8 civilian bomb threats, 6 counter drug operations and most importantly, secure locations during 27 POTUS visits around the world.
