Col COLONEL AARON S. COWLEY

Colonel Aaron S. Cowley is Commander, 5th Maintenance Group, 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota. As Commander, he leads 1,700 Airmen tasked to provide aircraft and munitions maintenance support for a fleet of 27 B-52 aircraft and a munitions stockpile valued at over $6 billion. Prior to his current assignment he was Chief, Nuclear Weapons, Missiles and Munitions Division, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., where he oversaw management, training and development of over 21,000 munitions, weapons, missile and space maintenance personnel and was responsible for the logistics policy supporting nuclear weapons, intercontinental ballistic missiles and conventional munitions.


Colonel Cowley is a career munitions and missile maintenance officer with varied experience in munitions and aircraft maintenance supporting A-10, B-2, B-52, F-15C and F-16 aircraft. Colonel Cowley has deployed three times to serve on combatant staffs during Operations ALLIED FORCE, IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. He has also served on the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff J-4 staff as Chief, Joint Munitions and as a deputy division chief. He hails from Du Quoin, Illinois and is married to the former Leslie Zoller with whom he has two daughters, Bailey (15) and Brenna (13).
