3/27/2008 - MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- A Minot Air Force Base spouse has been selected to represent Minot in the 2008 Mrs. North Dakota America Pageant to be held in Fargo, April 25th.

Mrs. Tara Lynn Doss, wife of Airman 1st Class Daniel A. Doss of the 5th Operations Support Squadron, was bestowed this honor on February 18th, at a preliminary competition held here in Minot.

At an early age Mrs. Doss was interested in pageants, watching them on television with her mother.

"I can remember watching all of the different pageants on television with my mom while I was growing up; I never thought that I would be competing in one someday," said Mrs. Doss.

Her selection came as a surprise in the form of a phone call from the pageant director informing her that her application had been selected and she was a finalist; the surprise was she didn't recall applying. Unbeknownst to her, her mother had sent in her photo and information. But although she wasn't expecting it, a welcome surprise it was.

"I am happy that there is a competition that celebrates being a married woman and a mother," she said. "It is nice to be acknowledged for something that you do every day that you know is special; it's nice that someone else feels that way too," she added.

Mrs. Doss will be competing in Fargo for many different prizes including the opportunity to win a round-trip ticket to the national pageant and the opportunity to compete for the title of Mrs. America in September.

"There is a lot of pressure on me because I choose not only to represent the town of Minot but more importantly to me, the base," she said with pride. "Being a military spouse I felt it was an honor to represent the base and I hope that I can represent military members and their spouses proudly."

For tickets to the pageant in Fargo or for additional information, call Natalie Sparrow, pageant director at 701-271-0402.
