Minot Airman wins trip to Wrestlemania 23 Published April 2, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Wesley Wright Minot Air Force Base Public Affairs MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- An Airman from here recently won a Wrestlemania 23 sweepstakes from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. First Lieutenant William Jones, 742nd Missile Squadron, attended the World Wrestling Entertainment produced event being held at Ford Field, Detroit April 1. Each year, AAFES holds sweepstakes events for Airmen. AAFES is a Department of Defense agency, whose mission is to provide quality goods and services to customers at low prices, and to generate earnings to supplement appropriated funds for the support of Army and Air Force Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs. The trip included roundtrip airfare for two, two ringside seats, three nights at a hotel and $500 spending cash. More than 80,000 fans attended the sold-out event to watch a host of wrestlers from John Cena to The Undertaker. According to Richard Sheff, AAFES chief marketing officer, the "Four Star Furlough Sweepstakes" was the only way to get a "headlock" on the hottest wrestling ticket of the year. Lieutenant Jones took his girlfriend, 1st Lieutenant Rachel Neild. "This is a chance of a lifetime," said Lieutenant Jones. "You can't put together this type of package on your own. Sure, I could spend the money to attend, but the autograph and photo time will be priceless." Lieutenant Jones said he is very grateful for an opportunity like this. "In gratitude to AAFES, I went out the same day I won and bought an XBOX 360 with the high-definition DVD player attachment in an effort to say 'thank you' to AAFES for the chance of a lifetime. There is nothing cooler than this."
