791st MSFS pays tribute to local veterans

MINOT, N.D. --  Members of the 791st Missile Security Forces Squadron expressed their community camaraderie by taking part in a ceremony during a Veterans Day event held at Trinity Homes in Minot, N.D., November 9th.

The event sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars featured a small performance by entertainers from the Minot Council of Arts and guest speakers from local organizations. The program brought together many veterans and active duty military for an afternoon of fellowship.

"We really like to come out and sponsor these types of patriotic programs for the eldery," said Peggy Aerick, member of the VFW ladies auxiliary. "We do it because we want to support our veterans and their families."

Emotions ran high during the ceremony as tears of joy ran across the face of some of the veterans who were heartfelt at the words of appreciation for their sacrifice.

"The joy in their eyes... you can just feel their emotions when we remember them. These are special days for them," said Aerick.

Senior Airman Andrew Magathan, 791st MSFS response force leader, has been involved in community engagement with Trinity Homes for more than two years and expressed the appreciation he has for the local veterans.

"I am constantly in contact with Lois (Trinity Homes Volunteer Coordinator), and whenever we get an opportunity to come out and show military support for the veterans, we're here," said Magathan.

For Senior Airman Tyler Brittin, 791st MSFS response force leader, getting face time with the veterans and hearing their stories is really worth paying them a visit and his respects to the elderly veterans.

Trinity Homes currently houses more than 30 veterans, from almost all branches of service.

Magathan looks forward to expanding involvement with the facility and providing outreach to involve more Airmen from across Minot Air Force Base.

"It's great to see the younger generation pay respect to those that came before them and we want to make sure we follow in their footsteps," said Staff Sgt. Anthony Harmon, 791st MSFS support flight chief.
