Lieutenant Colonel Scott R. Tonko is the Commander, 5th Medical Operations Squadron, Minot AFB, ND. As the Commander of 194 active duty and civilian medical personnel, he is responsible for the delivery of comprehensive healthcare to include family practice, flight/missile medicine, mental health, physical therapy, dental services, public health and bioenvironmental protection services for over 12,700 active duty, dependent and retired beneficiaries. He is also responsible for the execution of Minot AFB's Personnel Reliability Program, the largest program in the Department of Defense for America's only dual-wing nuclear-capable installation.Lt Col Tonko was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps in 1994. After three years of honorable Army service he transitioned to the Air Force Nurse Corps in 1997. He held a variety of positions to include Medical/Surgical, Post Anesthesia Care, Pain Management Service, Family Practice, Ambulatory Care, Critical Care & Flight Nursing. Prior to his current position, Lieutenant Colonel Tonko served as the first Section Commander for the 959th Inpatient Operations Squadron. He worked directly with the Commander to lead 9 inpatient Flight Commanders and 577 active duty medical personnel across 22 units. He was responsible for professional development, projection and processing of annual reports and decorations, as well as Commander oversight and coordination of UCMJ actions for 179 E-1 to E-4 Airmen. Lt Col Tonko is married to the former Joji Jumawan. They have two children, Tyler (16) and Spencer (13).
