Col COLONEL JULIE R. OSTRAND

Colonel Julie R. Ostrand is the Commander of the 5th Medical Group at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota. The mission of the 5th Medical Group is to ensure nuclear surety and combat readiness through outstanding health care (nukes, boots and band-aids). She enables the Mighty Medics to deliver superior medical services for the 5th Bomb Wing, 91st Missile Wing and Minot’s 12,500 beneficiaries.

Colonel Ostrand grew up in Hinckley, Minnesota. She graduated from nursing school in 1992 from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. She was commissioned that same year as a second lieutenant in the Nursing Service Corps. In 2003, Colonel Ostrand received an Air Force Institute of Technology assignment and received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 2005. She is a 2015 Air War College graduate. Colonel Ostrand has commanded at the squadron level twice. First she was the 39th Medical Operations Squadron Commander and Chief Nurse Executive of the 39th Medical Group, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. Then she led the 6th Medical Operations Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. Colonel Ostrand has also led at the element and flight levels in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She has experience as a medical, surgical, and labor and delivery nurse and is a board certified women’s health nurse practitioner.
