8/16/2012 - MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. -- A common misconception out there is that North Dakota is always cold. It is a surprise to see that there is a remarkably long temperate season, which includes beautiful sunny days.
Here in the North Central part of the state, the summer weather is at its best during the months of June, July and August, which means it is perfect for many outdoor activities. The days are warm, sometimes even hot and humid, but nights are often cool allowing a restful sleep.
Whether you are running, camping, boating, laying out at the pool or lake, grilling, even gardening and landscaping around the house; remember summer is here and some precautions must be taken to keep yourself safe.
Protect yourself from the discomfort of sunburns and use proper protection. Also, keep in mind the unexpected killer known as heatstroke!
Care for preventing a heatstroke is very important. If you are feeling hot while doing an activity outside, then cool off in a shade area or indoors and then continue with activity. Wear light, loose clothing and increase water intake. Infants and small children, to include pets, should not be left alone in closed cars. Remember, it is like an oven in there!
The summer heat can be a killer, but with preventive care and common sense, there is no reason why you cannot enjoy it safely. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and enjoy it while it lasts. |
