In early 2021, Girl Scout Junior Troop 10284 at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., sold over 3,000 boxes of cookies. Some of the money went towards a camping trip to Turtle River State Park in June, where the girls had a chance to swim in the river, geocache, and build strong relationships through a weekend of outdoor activity. However, the troop still had nearly $850 to spare after their trip and decided to use it for a good cause.

According to Lucy Vest, mother of one of the scouts, the troop held a brainstorming session earlier in the year to identify ways to give back to the community. They decided upon two acts of kindness: gift card giveaways and paying for strangers’ gas. 15 lucky recipients were approached by the girls at the base gas station on July 25, 2021 and received the gift of a free tank of gas.

Acts of kindness such as those performed by these Girl Scouts are one reason why Team Minot is so strong and close-knit. Thank you to Troop 10284 for paying it forward and making the community a better place!
